Dear PUSD Families,
Thank you for a terrific start of the school year! Many of you have had your back-to-school nights and the rest of the elementary schools host their back-to-school nights next week Thursday, September 8th.
We have our first long weekend! Monday is Labor Day and all district schools and offices are closed. We are expecting high temperatures when we return and will be following our protocols for this and keeping scholars inside. Athletic practices will also be inside during the high temperature days. This reminder, we have filtered water stations at all of our schools and it is a good idea to send your child to school with a water bottle they can refill throughout the day.
Please be careful this weekend during the high temperature days. The Pittsburg Library is open Saturday from 9:00-5:00 and Maya Cinema is participating in National Theater Day and all movies all day on Saturday are $3. The Pittsburg Senior Center will be open to all as a cooling center on Monday from 12:30-7:00. They are located at 300 Presidio Lane, right off of Harbor Street.

Some tips from Contra Costa County Health to stay safe in the heat are:
Drink plenty of water
Stay out of the sun
Stay inside, in air-conditioned room, if possible
Older adults and young children, and infants younger than 6 months, are really vulnerable to overheating in hot weather- check on the frequently
Keep your home cooler by keeping the blinds down and keeping the stove and other electrical appliances off when possible
People who are experiencing homelessness and need help can connect with services by calling 211 anywhere in Contra Costa County.

¡Gracias por un excelente comienzo del año escolar! Muchos de ustedes han tenido sus noches de regreso a la escuela y el resto de las escuelas primarias tendrán sus noches de regreso a la escuela la próxima semana, el jueves 8 de septiembre.
¡Tenemos nuestro primer fin de semana largo! El lunes es el Día del Trabajo y todas las escuelas y oficinas del distrito están cerradas. Estamos esperando temperaturas altas cuando regresemos y seguiremos nuestros protocolos para esto y mantendremos a los estudiantes adentro. Las prácticas de atletismo también serán adentro durante los días de temperaturas altas. Este recordatorio, tenemos estaciones de agua filtrada en todas nuestras escuelas y es una buena idea enviar a su hijo a la escuela con una botella de agua que pueden rellenar a lo largo del día.
Por favor tenga cuidado este fin de semana durante los días de temperaturas altas. La Biblioteca de Pittsburg está abierta el sábado de 9:00 - 5:00 y el Cine Maya está participando en el Día Nacional del Teatro y todas las películas durante todo el día del sábado cuestan $3. El Centro de Ancianos de Pittsburg estará abierto para todos como centro de refrigerio el lunes de 12:30 - 7:00. Están ubicados en 300 Presidio Lane, desde la Harbor Street.
